About the position

The Medical Surgical Attendant is a vital member of the healthcare team, assisting nursing and surgical professionals in patient care and maintaining a safe and clean environment. This role operates under the direction of nursing staff, shift supervisors, and the director of nursing, ensuring that all tasks are performed efficiently and effectively to support patient care.

Responsibilities

• Uses a systematic process to provide/modify care and patient/family education.
• Cleans the surgical services department areas, including operating, labor, delivery, recovery rooms, and prep rooms as needed between cases.
• Assists nurses in obtaining equipment for surgical services department areas.
• Keeps patients informed of their medical condition and the prescribed course of treatment.
• Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Expertise).
• Performs all other related job duties as assigned, including transporting patients.

Requirements

• Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
• High School diploma is required.
• Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
• Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions.
• Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment.
• Knowledge and skill in the use of job-appropriate technology and software applications.
• Must meet and maintain current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by the nursing area.

Nice-to-haves

• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
