About the position

The Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing) is part of Nursing Service line at the Manchester VA medical Center. This position is full-time at 40 hours per week. The MST, SPS follows the policies and procedures of the SPS Service to perform daily functions within established guidelines and demonstrates the ability to work effectively. The individual is accountable for maintaining SPS standards for the practice of all services and care lines and contributes to the fulfillment of the mission of the clinical areas. The incumbent will provide decontamination, prep, assembly, sterilization of reusable medical equipment throughout the medical center clinics and operating room. The term 'supply item' refers to disposable and reusable items for patient care including instrumentation, reusable medical equipment, surgical trays and sets, and various other items that could be processed or assembled through the Preparation and Decontamination areas of Sterile Processing Service.

Responsibilities

  • Provide decontamination, prep, assembly, and sterilization of reusable medical equipment.
  • Organize items on shelves, ensuring rotation of stock using First In- First Out (FIFO) method.
  • Work effectively within established guidelines and maintain SPS standards.
  • Prepare operating room case carts daily using surgery schedule.
  • Inspect packages for indications of proper sterilization.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required.
  • Participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in sterile processing or related healthcare field.
  • Education in health care related courses such as sterile processing, nursing assistant, or surgical technician courses.
