About the position

The Medical Screener - Reception Technician is responsible for greeting donors at the plasma collection center and conducting registration procedures to verify donor suitability for the plasma pheresis process. This role involves assisting donors through the screening process, performing health screenings, and ensuring a safe and efficient environment for both donors and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Greet donors and assist them in completing the screening process in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Assess self-administered health history and answer basic medical questions related to the donation process.
  • Refer donors to medical staff when appropriate and perform health screening procedures such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, and temperature checks.
  • Perform finger stick to obtain samples for hematocrit and total protein levels.
  • Educate new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma, including the screening process and center policies.
  • Ensure timely and accurate responses to donor questions.
  • Register applicants and transfer donors based on training and operational needs.
  • Answer telephone inquiries and transfer calls to appropriate staff members.
  • Maintain alertness to donor reactions during or after the pheresis process and notify appropriate staff.
  • Record donor data accurately in the electronic donor information management system as per SOPs.
  • Maintain a clean and efficient work environment and ensure sufficient operating supplies are available.
  • Follow Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and OSHA policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • Cross-train in other areas as needed to meet business requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three months experience in a clerical or customer service position, preferably in a medical or health provider environment.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral and/or written instructions.
