About the position

The Medical Screener - Reception Technician is responsible for greeting donors at the plasma collection center and conducting registration procedures to verify donor suitability for the plasma pheresis process. This role involves assisting donors with the screening process, answering medical questions, performing health screenings, and maintaining accurate donor records while ensuring a safe and clean environment.

Responsibilities

  • Greet donors and assist in completing the screening process according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Assess self-administered health history and answer basic medical questions related to the donation process.
  • Refer donors to medical staff when necessary and perform health screening procedures such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, and temperature checks.
  • Perform finger stick to obtain samples for hematocrit and total protein levels.
  • Educate new donors on therapeutic products made from donated plasma, including the screening process and center policies.
  • Register applicants and transfer donors based on training and operational needs.
  • Answer telephone inquiries and transfer calls to appropriate staff members.
  • Maintain alertness to donor reactions during or after the pheresis process and notify appropriate staff.
  • Record donor data accurately in the electronic donor information management system as per SOPs.
  • Understand policies related to hyper immune programs at the center, if applicable.
  • Maintain a clean and efficient work environment, ensuring sufficient operating supplies are available.
  • Promote safety in all actions and maintain confidentiality of personnel and donor information.
  • Cross-train in other areas as needed and perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three (3) months experience in a clerical or customer service related position, preferably in a medical or health provider environment.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral and/or written instructions.
