About the position

The Medical Radiographer at Lexington Regional Health Center is responsible for performing medical imaging exams on patients as requested by healthcare providers. This role involves verifying and clarifying orders to ensure the appropriate exams are conducted, preparing patients for examinations, and informing them of the risks and benefits associated with procedures. The radiographer utilizes both ionizing and non-ionizing medical equipment safely and effectively, ensuring high-quality exams while adhering to dose reduction practices. Responsibilities also include maintaining equipment cleanliness, observing safety and infection control measures, and participating in patient care activities that may involve exposure to bloodborne pathogens. The position requires regular attendance and the performance of additional duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Performs medical imaging exams on patients at the request of a healthcare provider.
  • Verifies and clarifies orders as needed to ensure that the most appropriate exam is being performed.
  • Prepares patients appropriately for examinations and informs them of the risks and benefits.
  • Utilizes ionizing and non-ionizing medical equipment safely and effectively.
  • Performs technical calibrations and maintains cleanliness of equipment.
  • Observes safety and infection control measures during examinations.
  • Adheres to department workflow for completion of exams and image archiving.
  • Participates in patient care activities that may involve blood exposure.
  • Responsible for safe disposal of biohazardous waste and following safe-injection practices.
  • Ensures the patient care environment meets governing body standards.
  • Maintains patient and staff safety through the use of safety tools.
  • Regular attendance at the assigned work location is required.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive understanding of general radiography and physician orders.
  • Knowledge of radiation safety and protection.
  • Completion of an approved two-year radiography program.
  • Registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (RT(R)(ARRT)).
  • Licensure as a Medical Radiographer with the Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services.
  • Experience in advanced modalities such as Computed Tomography, Sonography, etc. is a plus.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification via American Heart Association.
  • Attention to detail required up to 90% of the time.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Effective communication skills with diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries and complaints professionally.
  • Successful completion of required knowledge and training of standard precautions.
