About the position

The Medical Physicist A/B/C at the University of Pennsylvania's Department of Radiation Oncology plays a crucial role in providing clinical physics support across the Penn Medicine network. This position involves ensuring the quality and safety of radiation therapy treatments, participating in advanced treatment planning, and implementing new technologies and procedures. The role requires collaboration with various teams and training of residents and staff, contributing to the overall mission of delivering high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in the clinical aspects of radiation therapy treatment planning and machine support including weekly chart checks and planning support.
  • Participate in routine physics QA programs such as Conventional and CT-simulator QA, perform linear accelerator calibration, and participate in quality assurance for proton/photon units.
  • Assume lead duties for procedures or clinical activities, including writing policies and procedures for new therapy techniques and QA processes.
  • Participate in special treatment procedures such as Stereotactic procedures, HDR/LDR treatment planning, and Proton Therapy QA.
  • Provide network medical physics cross coverage as requested by the Chief of Physics - Network.
  • Participate in training of Radiation Oncology, Medical Physics Residents, and visitors in specialized technology training courses.
  • Implement new treatment therapies, procedures, and techniques at Penn facilities.

Requirements

  • Medical Physicist A: Masters of Science and 0 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. ABR eligible; residency training in CAMPEP-approved therapeutic medical physics is required.
  • Medical Physicist B: Masters of Science and 2-3 years experience working as a full-time medical physicist. ABR certified.
  • Medical Physicist C: Masters of Science and 5-7 years post-ABR certification experience as a full-time medical physicist.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior proton therapy experience is preferred but not required.
