About the position
The Medical Office Assistant at DMC Hutzel Women's Hospital plays a crucial role in supporting patient care and administrative functions within the clinic. This position involves direct interaction with patients, assisting healthcare providers during examinations, and managing various clerical tasks to ensure smooth operations in a high-risk obstetrics and women's health environment.
Responsibilities
- Greet visitors and register patients for outpatient services.
- Contact insurance providers to determine benefit levels and patient co-pays.
- Assist physicians during patient examinations by preparing exam rooms and taking vital signs.
- Collect and post payments, preparing daily deposits for received monies.
- Pull and prepare patient charts prior to appointments and file necessary documentation in medical records.
- Perform medical procedures such as venipuncture, EKGs, and assist with stress tests and routine x-rays.
- Schedule patient appointments and obtain referrals according to established guidelines.
- Enter and correct computerized records of patient billing information.
- Participate in safety training and adhere to established safety standards.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Graduation from a Medical Assistant Program or equivalent training preferred.
- Six months of experience in a medical office or related area performing Medical Assistant duties.
- Direct patient care experience preferred, with at least one year of experience in medical office clerical duties.
- Medical Assistant certification preferred.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with EMR usage and medical billing processes.
- Phlebotomy training or certification.
- Analytical skills for handling patient problems and billing issues.
