About the position

The Medical Director of Microbiology at Cleveland Clinic is a leadership role within the Section of Microbiology, part of the Division of Laboratory Medicine. This position involves overseeing a collaborative team of medical laboratory scientists and medical directors, providing infectious disease diagnostic support across the Cleveland Clinic Health System. The successful candidate will direct specimen processing and rapid testing, while also having opportunities for involvement in various areas of microbiology, education, and research.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the specimen processing and rapid testing area of the Microbiology Section.
  • Oversee the adoption of automation and rapid antimicrobial susceptibility testing technologies.
  • Collaborate with Infectious Diseases, Infection Prevention, and Antimicrobial Stewardship teams.
  • Engage in bacteriology directorship, education, and sponsored research as per interest and expertise.
  • Provide anatomic pathology infectious disease consultations.

Requirements

  • Board-certified or eligible by the American Board of Pathology and/or the American Board of Medical Microbiology.
  • Formal training in clinical microbiology.
  • Experience in clinical microbiology at any career stage.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in academic clinical pathology.
  • Interest in clinical, translational, and collaborative research.
