About the position

The Medical Coder at Montclair Surgical Associates is responsible for accurately coding diagnoses, procedures, and treatments for a busy general surgery practice. This role is crucial for ensuring proper coding for billing and reimbursement, supporting compliance with insurance policies, and maximizing efficiency in the revenue cycle. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical coding, particularly in surgical procedures, and will be committed to accuracy and adherence to all regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Assign accurate CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes for all general surgery procedures and patient diagnoses.
• Collaborate with the billing department to ensure timely submission of claims and resolve any coding-related issues that impact reimbursement.
• Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, including HIPAA, and adhere to coding guidelines and standards.
• Analyze and interpret patient records and surgical reports to identify all billable services and procedures.
• Assist with internal and external audits by providing accurate documentation and coding insights.
• Stay updated on coding changes, regulations, and best practices relevant to general surgery.

Requirements

• Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) preferred.
• Experience in medical coding within a surgical or general practice setting.
• Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems.
• Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and billing software.
• Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and excellent communication abilities.
