About the position
The Medical Billing & Coding Specialist at Numinus Wellness plays a crucial role in managing the billing process for patients in a growing mental health practice. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent customer service abilities to ensure efficient revenue cycle management and compliance with behavioral health guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Balances, batches, and posts incoming payments.
- Enters refund check requests in the computer and balances the check log.
- Prepares payments for bank deposits and ensures they reach the appropriate person.
- Tracks, fixes, rebills, and appeals denials.
- Responsible for the entire revenue cycle management including claims, collections, letters, refunds, certified mail, and final letters.
- Monitors account receivable for each specific account.
- Processes secondary billing including coordination of benefits.
- Files, scans, and uploads documents as needed.
- Calls patients and insurance companies regarding unpaid balances.
- Reviews provider chart notes to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Maintains current CPC or CPC-A certification and proficiency in Behavioral health guidelines/compliance via CEUs.
- May support tasks and assist other staff members with payment posting and bank reconciliation.
Requirements
- CPC Certified; CPC-A also accepted.
- Minimum of three years experience with Billing/Coding and revenue cycle management.
- Experience in Excel and Microsoft Word.
Nice-to-haves
- Preferred experience in behavioral health.
- Preferred experience with AthenaHealth EMR.
