About the position

The Medical Assistant (MA) at Penn Medicine plays a crucial role in supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care within the Adolescent-Young Adult Medicine department. This position involves assisting physicians and practice managers in maintaining a patient-centered focus, ensuring patient satisfaction, and achieving operational targets. The MA is responsible for various patient care tasks, including preparing patients for examinations, performing technical procedures, and managing patient communications, all while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Promptly rooms patients and reviews their medical history using EMR.
• Observes patient conditions and communicates any changes to the provider.
• Assists patients with mobility and preparation for exams.
• Manages specimens for testing, including performing phlebotomy and laboratory tests.
• Performs EKGs and other outpatient screening tests as ordered by the physician.
• Assists with minor surgical procedures and maintains a sterile field.
• Responds appropriately to emergency situations.
• Coordinates care with specialists and other health services via telephone.
• Completes medical forms and prepares patient correspondence as needed.
• Maintains cleanliness and safety in patient care areas, including sterilizing instruments.
• Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and infection control policies.

Requirements

• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
• CMA or RMA certification.
• MA Certification required within 90 days of hire.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Completion of MA Diploma or equivalent experience (7+ years as an MA may substitute for formal education).
