About the position
The Medical Assistant at Family Care Center plays a crucial role in providing care to clinic patients under the supervision of physicians or nurse practitioners. This position involves assisting in coordinating patient care, taking vital signs, and ensuring that all necessary medical information is documented and communicated effectively. The role is integral to the clinic's operations, supporting both patients and healthcare providers in a collaborative environment focused on transforming lives through behavioral health care.
Responsibilities
- Escort patients to exam rooms and document chief complaints, allergies, and current medications.
- Measure and document vital signs including weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature.
- Communicate directly with patients as instructed by the physician or nurse practitioner.
- Provide written prescriptions for patients and document appropriately.
- Ensure all related reports and labs are retrieved and uploaded into patients' medical records prior to appointments.
- Communicate abnormal lab results to patients under the direction of the physician or advanced provider.
- Triage and process portal and phone messages from patients and front office staff to physicians and nurse practitioners.
- Document any reactions to medications in the patient's chart.
- Maintain logs and required checks such as refrigerator temperatures and emergency medications.
- Schedule, reschedule, or cancel follow-up appointments as necessary and log into practice software.
- Monitor patients during telemedicine appointments and communicate any remarkable findings to the remote provider.
- Perform injections as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of formal training program as a medical assistant required.
- 1 year experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.
- Electronic Medical Record experience preferred.
- Health insurance experience preferred.
- RMA or CMA certification preferred.
- BLS certification preferred.
Nice-to-haves
