About the position

The Medical Assistant position at Gastro Florida involves supporting clinicians in a gastroenterology medical office, primarily in Tampa Bay. The role includes assisting in patient care, maintaining clinical areas, and ensuring accurate documentation. The Medical Assistant will work under the direction of the division practice manager and is expected to provide excellent customer service while managing clinical tasks efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Support the clinician in the exam rooms and assist with scribing.
• Check patient vitals and maintain a hygienic and organized clinical area.
• Assist in clinical services such as orders, discharge instructions, and documentation of prescription medications as directed by the physician.
• Enter clinical data accurately, including chief complaint, history, allergies, medications, and surgeries.
• Record orders as directed by the clinician and provide updates for completion of those orders.
• Provide medical chart information and ensure compliance with EMR documentation.
• Assist with patient education and ePrescribing requirements.
• Contact patients to advise of test results and necessary follow-up visits.
• Respond to patient inquiries and triage calls in a timely manner.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including front office roles (approximately 10%).

Requirements

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification required.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 2 years of medical office experience utilizing EMR/practice management systems.
• Experience in customer service, preferably from employers emphasizing excellent service.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a gastroenterology setting.
• Familiarity with discharge planning.
