About the position
Rio Grande Urology is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to join their fast-paced clinical team. This role involves performing various clinical duties, assisting physicians with patient care, and managing clerical tasks in a physician-owned practice. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, team-driven, and possess a genuine desire to assist patients, along with experience in electronic medical records (EMR).
Responsibilities
- Update patient medical records and charts
- Answer phones and schedule medical appointments and procedures
- Process insurance information for billing
- Verify and authorize provider appointments
- Demonstrate excellent customer service
- Prepare patients for healthcare visits and enter assessment data into EMR
- Place patients in exam rooms for provider evaluation
- Obtain medical and social history from patients
- Verify patient information and identification
- Accurately complete all forms
- Support providers with patient care delivery
- Assist providers during examinations and treatments
- Take vital signs and perform ancillary tests
- Perform testing and tasks as ordered by the physician
- Use aseptic techniques for surgical setups and wound care
- Provide drug samples as ordered by the provider
- Call in prescriptions as ordered by the physician
- Apply bandages, dressings, and assist with post-operative care
- Educate patients as instructed by the physician
- Complete records according to company policy
- Maintain supplies, clean rooms and equipment, and stock rooms as needed
Requirements
- Medical Assistant Diploma from an accredited vocational institution or community college
- Medical Assistant Certification required
- Minimum of one year recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant
- Documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office
