About the position

The Medical Assistant at Barrow Brain and Spine plays a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of a medical office focused on pain management. This position involves both administrative and clinical duties, including patient registration, vital sign monitoring, and assisting physicians during procedures. The ideal candidate will contribute to a collaborative and patient-centered environment, ensuring high-quality care and efficient office operations.

Responsibilities

• Registers new patients in the EMR system with correct demographic and insurance information.
• Prepares necessary documentation for physician prior to patient arrival.
• Prepares dressing room, procedure room, and equipment for each new patient.
• Greets patients and escorts them to dressing rooms.
• Updates patient history and takes vital signs, documenting in Centricity.
• Performs urine toxicity screenings.
• Answers telephone inquiries and directs callers appropriately.
• Sets up for in-office injections including trigger point, bursa, and occipital nerve blocks.
• Administers I.M. injections and assists physician during procedures.
• Monitors patients in the recovery area.
• Conducts reminder calls to patients for pain management procedures.
• Tracks incoming imaging and reports for upcoming consultations/office visits.
• Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited program in Medical Assisting.
• 2 years experience in out- or in-patient pain management setting preferred.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Centricity EMR system.
