About the position

The Medical Assistant position at VillageMD involves supporting physicians and advanced practice providers in delivering patient care across multiple locations. This role is essential for ensuring efficient patient flow, managing appointments, and performing clerical duties, all while maintaining a high standard of patient interaction and care. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for various tasks including patient greeting, scheduling, collecting payments, and assisting with medical procedures, contributing to a patient-centric healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Physician, APRN/PA with patient care and procedures across multiple locations.
  • Greet patients and their families, scheduling appointments and tests efficiently.
  • Collect payments from patients and provide account balance information.
  • Post payments to the correct accounts and prepare bank deposit bags.
  • Answer telephone calls promptly and address caller needs expediently.
  • Provide referrals and/or consult orders in a timely manner.
  • Schedule and enter diagnostic tests and procedures into the order management system.
  • Obtain, verify, and update patient information including demographics and insurance.
  • Prepare examination rooms and ensure proper preparation for patient visits.
  • Collect lab specimens and accurately label them, completing necessary forms.
  • Obtain vital signs and document them appropriately in the EHR.
  • Work cooperatively with clinical staff to ensure timely pre-authorizations.
  • Review and reconcile medication lists and document allergies in the EHR.
  • Confirm future appointments and manage the Televox cancellation list.
  • Maintain an organized sample closet and discard outdated medication.
  • Stock examination rooms with necessary supplies and monitor inventory.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED required; Bachelor's/Associate Degree preferred.
  • Medical Assistant Certification required.
  • Experience in MA/PSR work preferred.
  • Must obtain BLS certification within 60 days of hire.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to work as a team player.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Basic proficiency in computer use and knowledge of medical office terminology preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with standard office equipment (phone, fax, copy machine, scanner).
  • Experience with standard office technology in a Windows-based environment.
