About the position

The Medical Assistant or LPN position at PrairieCare involves providing ancillary support in an outpatient psychiatric clinic. The role requires collaboration with the care team to coordinate psychiatric services for patients experiencing mental health disorders. Responsibilities

  • Provide care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner sensitive to the patient's developmental age and diversity.
  • Track and communicate pertinent medical and psychiatric information in EHR.
  • Perform duties assigned by physicians, nurse practitioners, RNs, and LPNs.
  • Conduct appropriate interventions as ordered by providers, including testing and documentation of results.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following operating guidelines and procedures.
  • Screen calls from patients and families, addressing needs or transferring calls as necessary.
  • Monitor and address requests in the task management system, forwarding tasks appropriately.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding patients and families.
  • Perform safe infection control practices and teach patients about hygiene.
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques in pre-crisis or crisis situations.
  • Ensure medication refills are completed under supervision.
  • Administer injections according to clinic protocol and supervision.
  • Obtain insurance pre-authorizations for medications and track them.
  • Maintain clinic laboratory supplies and assist in referrals.
  • Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team members and accept feedback.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Completion of Medical Assistant program and/or an LPN Program.
  • Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a medical office required.
  • Previous mental health experience preferred.
  • Problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate and make safe judgment calls in stressful situations.
  • Interpersonal skills to maintain confidentiality and openness to new ideas.
  • Professional communication skills in both verbal and written formats.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly in volatile situations.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively.
  • Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office products and EHR.
  • Judgment to make sound, ethical decisions and timely choices.
  • Quality management skills to improve and promote accuracy.
