About the position

Responsible for assisting the healthcare team with the care and management of patients during their visit. Perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to maintain and support the office and to assure efficient patient flow through the office.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the physician or other clinical staff with procedures, treatments, specimen collection and communication to patients.
  • Maintain patient flow by escorting patients from the waiting area to the examination room.
  • Prepare patients for their visit, examination, procedure, and/or treatment in accordance with established procedures.
  • Document patient information in the electronic medical record as instructed.
  • Assist physicians, licensed providers and/or nurses with selectively designated medical and surgical procedures in accordance with established protocols.
  • Assist in the collection, labeling and processing of specimens.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience.
  • Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant certification program.
  • One to two years of successful working experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Must have experience in a medical oncology or hematology service.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers completion.
  • Medical Assistant Certification through one of the following national organizations: AAMA, AMCA, NHA, AMT, ARMA, NPS, NRCMA, or NCCT.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages and volume.
  • Weight and height measurements, vital signs and blood pressure collection as authorized.
