About the position

The Medical Assistant III position at Hoag involves providing essential support in a busy internal medicine practice. The role focuses on maintaining a professional environment, facilitating patient access, and ensuring smooth communication between patients and healthcare providers. The Medical Assistant will handle non-clinical tasks, assist with scheduling, and manage pre-authorization processes, all while ensuring that patient care is prioritized and that all necessary records and tests are completed in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a highly professional environment for patients and physicians.
  • Assist with scheduling follow-up office visits, imaging, and lab work.
  • Prepare appropriate chart elements for patient appointments.
  • Manage the pre-authorization process for patient services.
  • Act as a liaison between providers and patients to ensure clear communication.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure all proper records are received before appointments or surgeries.
  • Provide updates to staff and patients regarding timing and status of tests and treatments.
  • Ensure even patient flow and continuous communication within Hoag and referring physician offices.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent; Graduate of Medical Assistant program or one year previous medical back-office experience, preferably within an acute healthcare system environment.
  • Basic keyboarding skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field.
  • Minimum one (1) year previous medical back-office experience, preferably within an acute healthcare system environment.
  • Working knowledge of EPIC or other Electronic Medical Record system (EMR).
  • Qualified bilingual or multilingual candidates.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $24.10 - $37.05 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
