About the position
The Medical Assistant III position at Hoag involves providing essential support in a busy internal medicine practice. The role focuses on maintaining a professional environment, facilitating patient access, and ensuring smooth communication between patients and healthcare providers. The Medical Assistant will handle non-clinical tasks, assist with scheduling, and manage pre-authorization processes, all while ensuring that patient care is prioritized and that all necessary records and tests are completed in a timely manner.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a highly professional environment for patients and physicians.
- Assist with scheduling follow-up office visits, imaging, and lab work.
- Prepare appropriate chart elements for patient appointments.
- Manage the pre-authorization process for patient services.
- Act as a liaison between providers and patients to ensure clear communication.
- Collaborate with staff to ensure all proper records are received before appointments or surgeries.
- Provide updates to staff and patients regarding timing and status of tests and treatments.
- Ensure even patient flow and continuous communication within Hoag and referring physician offices.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent; Graduate of Medical Assistant program or one year previous medical back-office experience, preferably within an acute healthcare system environment.
- Basic keyboarding skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
Nice-to-haves
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field.
- Minimum one (1) year previous medical back-office experience, preferably within an acute healthcare system environment.
- Working knowledge of EPIC or other Electronic Medical Record system (EMR).
- Qualified bilingual or multilingual candidates.
