About the position

The Medical Assistant carries out orders for patient care as directed by the Medical Doctors, Physician Assistants, and Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners. The Medical Assistant follows prescribed clinical workflows and participates in clinical and/or administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts chart prep for each patient daily and participates in daily huddles with the provider.
  • Serves as a patient experience advocate by being a positive influence at all times when interacting with patients, visitors, and colleagues.
  • Greets and shows patients to exam room and prepares patient for visit with provider; follows SOP for documentation in the e-HR and Standing Orders appropriate to the visit type.
  • Prepares patients for exam by measuring vital signs, reviewing screening questionnaires and accurately records information in patient chart.
  • Reviews and updates current medication list, problem list, patient medical history, surgical history, and family history, making changes as needed.
  • Administers injections and medications as prescribed by the provider and in accordance with protocol, regulatory requirements, and standards of practice.
  • Prepares and assists providers with various procedures exams as designated by the provider.
  • Implements standing orders.
  • Performs various tests upon the request of the provider, including but not limited to: phlebotomy, hearing tests, EKGs, breathing treatments, and vision tests.
  • Collects blood or other laboratory specimens and prepares them for further testing.
  • Participates in test tracking and monitors overdue results.
  • Administers the in-box to ensure patient communication and follow-up is completed.
  • Assures exam rooms are adequately supplied and cleaned after each patient visit.
  • Assists provider and patient in reviewing and revising care plans and assesses patient progress.
  • Assists with proactive outreach for patients requiring preventative and chronic disease services.
  • Collaborates with care coordination to communicate all pertinent information for promoting coordinated activities among specialists.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement initiatives to improve overall patient experience and quality of care.
  • Handles all patient information in a confidential manner according to Union Community Care's privacy and confidentiality policies and procedures.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program or competency assessment and two years of on-the-job training.
  • May be new graduate or have less than 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • English proficiency required.
