About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) position in the ACE/Stroke/Observation unit at Advocate Aurora Health is a full-time role with a commitment to providing high-quality care to patients, particularly the elderly. The position requires working weeknights from 1900 to 0730, with no weekend obligations and 50% holiday obligations. The unit focuses on preventing loss of self-care abilities in older patients during hospitalization. The role includes using the nursing process to assess patient needs, implement individualized interventions, and evaluate care effectiveness. The RN will collaborate with healthcare team members, coordinate discharge plans, and participate in quality improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Uses the nursing process to assess patient needs and implement individualized interventions.
  • Anticipates and recognizes significant changes in the patient's condition and adjusts care plans accordingly.
  • Implements strategies to reduce patient risk and increase safety.
  • Coordinates discharge plans using an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Applies evidence-based practice in patient care.
  • Evaluates patient, team, and unit outcomes and takes action when necessary.
  • Promotes collaboration among healthcare team members and assumes a leadership role.
  • Identifies threats to patient safety and intervenes to prevent harm.
  • Participates in quality/process improvement initiatives.
  • Engages in professional development and mentoring opportunities.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Completion of an accredited nursing program.
  • New graduates are welcome to apply.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in geriatric care or acute care settings.
  • Proficient computer skills and familiarity with electronic medical records.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
