About The Position

The Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program is designed for candidates passionate about healthcare and eager to learn in a hands-on environment. Apprentices will receive comprehensive training from experienced preceptors in outpatient clinics in the greater Portland metropolitan area. This intensive six-month earn-to-learn program enables apprentices to earn a full-time wage while training to become a Medical Assistant. In addition to hands-on in-clinic training, apprentices are required to complete unpaid coursework outside of clinic time.

Requirements

  • Coursework/Training and Enrollment in the Medical Assistant (MA) Apprenticeship Program within 60 days of hire.
  • National Provider BLS - American Heart Association upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months of Medical assistant experience.
  • 6 months of Healthcare experience in a setting with an Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • 6 months of prior experience providing a high level of customer service in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Receive comprehensive training from experienced preceptors in outpatient clinics.
  • Complete approximately 1,000 clinical training hours over six months.
  • Complete 10-15 hours per week of unpaid coursework for the first 20 weeks, including live, synchronous sessions and asynchronous work.
  • Be flexible with clinic locations and commutes.
  • Successfully complete the requirements of the program.
  • Work for Providence for a minimum of two years after graduation.
