About the position

The Medical Assistant Apprentice position is a full-time role within the OBGYN department, designed for individuals participating in the 2025 Apprenticeship Cohort starting in January 2025. This apprenticeship offers hands-on training alongside a mentor, allowing apprentices to assist healthcare providers in delivering patient care while developing their skills in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage the flow of patients to maximize physician's time and reduce delays.
• Take initial patient history and accurately document vital signs and complaints in the patient's medical record.
• Prepare the patient and room for examination or procedure by the physician.
• Assist the physician with examinations and procedures.
• Perform phlebotomy and necessary laboratory testing, or prepare specimens and order outside laboratory testing.
• Perform radiological exams and EKG procedures as ordered by the physician.
• Clean patient room after visits and procedures.
• Scrub, rinse, and place used instruments in disinfectant tray after each patient.
• Properly autoclave instruments or prepare them to be autoclaved at the hospital.
• Call or fax in prescriptions and handle physician's callbacks on patient test results as directed.
• Monitor and maintain equipment in good working order.
• Maintain medical stock and drug and medical supply inventory.
• Complete all tasks and documentation in an accurate and timely manner.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Selected and enrolled in the Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or within 180 days of hire.
• One year of experience working in a physician's office preferred.
