About the position

The Medication Technician (Med Tech) is responsible for providing direct resident care and medication distribution in a nursing facility. This role emphasizes a team approach to promote the physical, personal, and emotional well-being of residents, aiming to maintain their independence and quality of life. The Med Tech will observe residents, document care, assist with daily living activities, and ensure a safe and clean environment while working closely with nursing staff and other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct resident care services including medication distribution to residents.
  • Follow individualized plan of care (ISP) for each assigned resident.
  • Observe residents for changes in condition and report any changes immediately to nursing supervisor.
  • Document daily care and red flags throughout the shift, especially during rounds at night.
  • Check and record vital signs, weights, and other duties as assigned in accordance with state regulations and community policies.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, oral care, toileting, and dressing.
  • Perform restorative nursing techniques including proper positioning and Passive Range of Motion.
  • Encourage residents to participate in scheduled activities and assist them in getting to activities.
  • Assist residents with transfers and ambulation using proper body mechanics and equipment.
  • Respond to urgent calls in a timely manner.
  • Provide backup support to other departments as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in resident areas and common spaces.
  • Change bed linens and provide laundry services as necessary.
  • Requisition and charge resident supplies as needed.
  • Support fall prevention programs and maintain a restraint-free environment.
  • Help welcome and transfer residents according to facility procedures.
  • Attend in-service classes and staff meetings.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.
  • Med Tech certificate or CNA preferred.
  • One year of assisted living or memory care experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and write, follow written and oral instructions, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills and ability to develop conceptual alternatives.
  • Ability to work with the elderly in a courteous and friendly manner, demonstrating patience and compassion.
  • Ability to perform duties with consideration for residents' rights and demonstrate integrity and discretion.
