About the position

The Mechanical Integrity Engineer at Georgia-Pacific will enhance the maintenance and operation of the Wauna facility Pulp Mill in Clatskanie, OR. This role focuses on the technical aspects of the fixed equipment program, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards. The engineer will manage inspection plans, coordinate repairs, and support the overall mechanical integrity of fixed equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and support the site fixed equipment program database(s) to ensure compliance with inspections and repairs related to tanks, heat exchangers, boilers, piping systems, pressure vessels, and evaporators.
  • Manage inspection, testing, and preventative maintenance (ITPM) plans for fixed equipment, including planning, scheduling, and technical aspects.
  • Develop detailed work packages for routine and outage tasks involving fixed equipment, specifying inspection methods, damage mechanisms, acceptance criteria, and providing cost and time estimates, access requirements, cleaning, maintenance, and QA/QC needs.
  • Deliver effective outage and contractor coordination planning for all inspections and repairs related to fixed equipment within the annual outage work process.
  • Manage deficiencies and temporary repairs in fixed equipment, ensuring administrative controls prevent escalation into serious incidents.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of inspections and repairs for all fixed equipment to enable consistent mechanical integrity.
  • Provide technical content and engineering support for fixed equipment to site teams, including troubleshooting, problem-solving, cost estimates, and execution of design solutions.
  • Support communication of the site fixed equipment program to pulp mill leadership, highlighting any abnormal or critical risks.
  • Actively engage in site Chemical Process Safety (CPS) management, including ITPM plan development and program training, focusing on all fixed equipment.
  • Participate in and lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify root causes of complex and repetitive problems with fixed equipment, implementing corrective actions.
  • Actively participate in the design and implementation of Asset Improvement Strategies to enhance production and uptime of all fixed equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in an engineering discipline (chemical, civil, materials, or mechanical) preferred.
  • Maintenance and/or reliability experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes, guidelines, and standards including Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP).

Nice-to-haves

  • Pulp and Paper experience.
  • API, AWS CWI certifications.
  • Certified Authorized Inspector (NBIC).
  • Non-destructive testing (NDT) certifications.
  • Working knowledge of computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Working knowledge with asset health databases or other inspection data management systems (IDMS).
  • Knowledge of failure modes and damage mechanisms common to the pulp and paper industry.
