About The Position

The Mechanical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, timely, and competitive estimates for a wide range of commercial and industrial mechanical projects. This individual evaluates drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project requirements to develop comprehensive cost proposals. The Estimator collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, vendors, subcontractors, and leadership to support Conti Corporation’s pursuit of high‑quality, profitable work. This role requires strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems—HVAC, piping, plumbing, sheet metal, and equipment installation—as well as a solid understanding of construction processes, labor productivity, and market pricing. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, analytical, and capable of working in a fast-paced preconstruction environment.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of experience estimating mechanical, HVAC, or plumbing projects.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including ductwork, piping, HVAC equipment, and controls.
  • Proficient in estimating software, On‑Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong math, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and time‑management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with commercial, industrial, mission-critical, or large‑scale mechanical projects.
  • Prior field experience in mechanical construction (technician, installer, foreman, etc.).
  • Familiarity with design‑build project delivery.
  • Experience working with multi‑trade contractors.
  • Engineering or technical degree (preferred but not required).

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop cost estimates for labor, equipment, and materials.
  • Prepare conceptual, budgetary, and detailed estimates based on project needs and available information.
  • Analyze mechanical system design options and provide value‑engineering recommendations.
  • Identify potential risks, constructability concerns, and clarifications for inclusion in proposals.
  • Prepare complete mechanical bid submissions, proposals, and supporting documentation.
  • Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes to ensure competitive and complete coverage.
  • Coordinate pre-bid meetings, RFIs, and bid reviews with internal teams.
  • Ensure estimates align with Conti’s productivity expectations, safety standards, and operational capabilities.
  • Assist the project team during project startup by transferring knowledge regarding scope, pricing, and assumptions.
  • Review design changes or addenda and update estimates accordingly.
  • Provide ongoing estimating support for change orders and revisions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and industry partners.
  • Collaborate with project management, field operations, business development, and engineering teams.
  • Represent Conti Corporation professionally on preconstruction calls, meetings, and vendor discussions.
  • Maintain accurate labor rates, material pricing, and production data within estimating tools.
  • Track bid performance, historical costs, and market trends to improve estimating accuracy.
  • Support the division in meeting revenue and backlog growth objectives.
