Mechanical Engineering Summer Intern
About The Position
VIAVI Solutions is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Summer Intern to support engineering activities related to vacuum chamber optical coating systems and handheld spectroscopy products. This internship provides hands-on exposure to mechanical design, CAD modeling, engineering documentation, and internal engineering systems within a collaborative product development environment. VIAVI empowers Service Providers and IT organizations to manage the network lifecycle for complex 5G and Fiber networks with intuitive instruments, systems and technologies; and our expertise in light management and optical coatings help protect the world's bank notes from counterfeiters, enhance the colors you see, and enable advanced technology such as 3D sensing. Requirements
- Currently pursuing a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Targeting 2nd or 3rd year undergraduate students
- Familiarity with CAD software, preferably SolidWorks
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Interest in precision mechanical systems and product development
Responsibilities
- Assist engineers with mechanical design and CAD modeling using SolidWorks
- Support development and maintenance of engineering drawings and documentation
- Participate in prototype evaluation, fit checks, and design reviews
- Help maintain internal engineering systems, records, and technical documentation
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams on product development activities
- Support ongoing engineering and continuous improvement projects
