About the position

Qualis Corporation is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join their Advanced Technology Group in Huntsville, Alabama. The role involves designing and developing mechanical systems for space-related applications, requiring a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles and relevant experience in design, manufacturing, or test engineering. The position emphasizes collaboration with a diverse team to optimize mechanical prototypes in a rapid-prototype environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical parts and assemblies, including 3D CAD modeling
  • Perform engineering analyses, such as weight and center of mass, structural, transportability, or thermal
  • Understand mechanically based requirements and verification
  • Communicate with suppliers and customers to exchange technical information
  • Collaborate with other functional areas on various aspects of product design/documentation
  • Create and deliver engineering briefings or reports to support design reviews and activities
  • Develop and participate in briefing materials for milestone stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET-accredited university with a minimum GPA of 3.3
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in design, analysis, or manufacturing engineering
  • Experience creating 3D models using industry-standard 3D CAD packages with SolidWorks
  • Experience drafting, reviewing, or interpreting 2D mechanical drawings
  • Experience with mechanical analyses (FEA, structural and thermal)
  • Self-motivated and able to work productively and independently in a fast-paced environment with a multidisciplinary team
  • Support system and subsystem level analysis, design, documentation, configuration management, test, and evaluation to include mechanical component analysis, selection, tracking, and integration
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplined team members
  • Good attention to detail, follow-through, and time-management skills
  • Demonstrated good verbal/written communication skills & proactive inter-personal initiative
  • Experience with engineering support to NASA and DoD manufacturing
  • Experience designing to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards
  • Ability to acquire a DoD Secret (or greater) security clearance (or interim)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, Visio and Excel.
