The Mechanical Engineer I position at Hargrove Engineers & Constructors is an entry-level role focused on performing routine designs and engineering assignments under direct supervision. The role emphasizes the application of theoretical knowledge and practical design methods in various engineering tasks, particularly in the industrial, commercial, and government sectors. Responsibilities

  • Perform routine designs of less complex engineering assignments under direct supervision.
  • Familiarity and use of department design and drafting standards.
  • Assist with on-site support during startup phases.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies for engineering tasks.
  • Produce estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs.
  • Create detailed design calculations and sketches for materials of construction.
  • Assist the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.
  • Consult with design leaders from other disciplines for project completion.
  • Review and check vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for mechanical input.
  • Assist in engineering activities such as stress analysis and material procurement specifications.
  • Support flexibility and stress analysis of piping systems.
  • Assist in selecting piping specialty items.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Engineer in training (EIT) registration is strongly preferred.
  • Up to 1 year of relevant industrial experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Knowledge of design standards and codes.
  • Knowledge of specifications for piping materials.
  • Knowledge of development of piping material and material procurement specifications.
  • Knowledge of manual valve sizing and application.
  • Knowledge of application of piping supports and restraints.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD, Microstation or both.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to develop virtual team skills and cross-divisional relationships.
