About the position

The Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance Unit Manager at BWX Technologies is responsible for ensuring that all maintenance and electrical operations are executed safely and in compliance with defined procedural, regulatory, and environmental requirements. The role involves obtaining, scheduling, and managing resources to meet safety requirements within budgeted costs, as well as recommending and implementing process improvements to support on-site production facilities. The manager will provide senior-level leadership and report to the Work Management Section Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Sets the standard and is responsible for the Safety Culture and procedural compliance of the Maintenance Department.
  • Leads the Mechanical & Electrical/Electronics Maintenance Department, providing direction to supervisors to support day-to-day activities.
  • Executes functional business plans and contributes to the development of functional strategy while supporting Safety, Quality, Schedule, and Cost priorities.
  • Manages all programmatic aspects of the Mechanical & Electrical/Electronics Maintenance.
  • Directs assigned maintenance activities based on functional strategy and priorities.
  • Originates cost-saving concepts and applies industry awareness to drive financial and operational performance.
  • Performs duties as assigned by the Work Management Section Manager.
  • Manages the Mechanical & Electrical/Electronics Maintenance budget and originates requisitions for equipment and supplies.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and sets measurable goals for staff development.
  • Coordinates with the Training Department to ensure adequate training and qualifications for maintenance staff.
  • Participates in the Corrective Action Program through screening, investigation, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Fosters collaboration with Work Control and Maintenance Work Groups to meet Work Management objectives.
  • Responsible for recruitment and hiring of supervisory and support staff, mentoring supervisors to enhance skills.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree or 8 years of equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
  • With B.S. Degree, nine-ten years' experience, including five years in a supervisory position in the nuclear industry or equivalent training and work experience.
