About the position

The Mechanic oversees and participates in the more complex diagnostic, repair, and maintenance work on a variety of heavy duty automotive, truck, tractors and trailer equipment ensuring adherence to safe working practices and procedures. The Mechanic provides training and mentoring to less experienced mechanics.

Responsibilities

• Trains assigned employees in maintenance and repair methods, procedures, and techniques.
• Leads, assigns and inspects the work of subordinates and participates in all associated work.
• Verifies work performed for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
• Ensures adherence to safe work practices and assists in the evaluation of employees.
• Prescribes procedures, methods, and materials to staff on complex projects.
• Reads and interprets schematics, shop manuals, and other related materials in performing work assignments and to stay abreast of the current technology.
• Performs preventive maintenance and ensures the timely and effective repair of any problems identified during an inspection.
• Determines the extent of necessary repairs, scheduling of repairs, and associated cost and material estimates.
• Utilizes vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.
• Performs inspection, diagnosis, and repair of electrical, AC, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
• Advises supervisor immediately if additional work is needed or if repairs cannot be completed within the Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
• Estimates time and material costs on repairs and requisitions new parts.
• Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
• Conducts safety checks on equipment and vehicles.
• Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards and performs all work in accordance with established safety protocols.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
