About the position

The Automotive and Heavy Equipment Technician is responsible for performing both minor and major repairs on all gasoline, diesel, electric, and natural gas-powered vehicles and equipment at all facilities owned or operated by the IAA. This position also involves welding and cutting functions at all IAA facilities. The technician must participate in snow removal activities, which may restrict the use of personal and/or vacation time from November 1 through March 31, depending on weather conditions. During this period, the technician is expected to report to work within a 2-hour period upon call if it is snowing. Additional tasks may be assigned as required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on all gasoline, diesel, electric, and natural gas-powered equipment operated by the airport.
  • Perform minor and major repair work on all equipment operated by the airport.
  • Maintain and repair auxiliary generators at all airport facilities.
  • Operate the wrecker and service truck with crane.
  • Report unusual security situations to the Safety Departments.
  • Fabricate metals.
  • Participate in snow removal activities as needed.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
  • Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions and troubleshooting breakdowns.
  • Evaluate service and parts options to contain costs.
  • Verify vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems.
  • Complete maintenance and organizational mission by achieving related results.
  • Test and adjust repaired systems to meet manufacturers' performance specifications.
  • Perform computer diagnostics and repairs.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electronic control circuits.
  • Read, understand, and troubleshoot from wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Weld and fabricate metal.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems and read hydraulic schematics.
  • Obtain EPA certification for dispensing refrigerants.
  • Troubleshoot and repair air-conditioning systems.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school or successful completion of a high school equivalency exam.
  • At least 5 years' working experience as an automotive technician.
  • Ability to troubleshoot using computers, scanners, and electrical meters.
  • Diesel engine and heavy equipment repair experience.
  • Ability to perform all physical and cognitive tasks outlined in the job description.
