About The Position

The Manufacturing Systems Engineer is a hands-on engineer responsible for strengthening manufacturing processes across sheet metal fabrication and electro-mechanical assembly. This role supports quality systems, resolves non-conforming material issues, improves process documentation, and drives continuous improvement initiatives in a high-mix, make-to-order environment. The ideal candidate is a practical problem solver who is comfortable working on the production floor and collaborating directly with operators, supervisors, and leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Electro-Mechanical Engineering
  • 0–3 years of experience in manufacturing (capstones and internships considered in experience)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience
  • Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication and/or electro-mechanical assembly
  • Exposure to root cause analysis methods (5 Why, Fishbone, 8D)
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings
  • Hands-on, practical problem solving
  • Strong floor presence and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Data-driven decision making
  • Willingness to learn and take ownership

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in high-mix or make-to-order manufacturing
  • Experience using lean manufacturing tools
  • Experience with ERP or manufacturing systems

Responsibilities

  • Fabrication & Assembly Process Support
  • Support sheet metal fabrication processes (punch, brake, weld) to improve dimensional control and reduce rework
  • Assist in troubleshooting electro-mechanical assembly and test issues
  • Develop and maintain clear, usable work instructions and process documentation
  • Support fixture, tooling, and workflow improvements
  • Participate in new product introductions and engineering changes
  • Quality Systems & Non-Conforming Material
  • Lead root cause analysis for fabrication, assembly, and supplier quality issues
  • Manage non-conforming material investigations and corrective actions
  • Track and analyze scrap, rework, and defect trends
  • Continuous Improvement & Lean
  • Support lean initiatives including 5S, standard work, visual management, and waste reduction
  • Participate in value stream mapping and process improvement activities
  • Improve first pass yield in fabrication and assembly
  • Assist in implementing error-proofing solutions
