About the position

The Manufacturing Process Engineer III at Blue Origin plays a crucial role in supporting the development and operations of the New Glenn rocket, a heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle designed for human spaceflight. This position focuses on creating and optimizing manufacturing processes to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency in the production of space vehicles. The engineer will lead the development of manufacturing work instructions, manage quality and build sequences, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop manufacturing work instructions for fabrication, assembly, test, integration, and refurbishment.
  • Closely manage quality, build sequence, and schedule of hardware throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Develop and release Process Control Documents (PCDs) to meet design definitions.
  • Define and support repair and rework activities.
  • Perform root cause analyses for non-conformances and deploy corrective actions.
  • Manage hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the build and test process.
  • Perform process mapping to identify improvements and drive high production rates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials Science, Chemical, Industrial, Systems Aerospace, or equivalent Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 5+ years of direct manufacturing and manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Ability to produce high-quality products in a fast-paced, rapid development, and production environment.
  • Ability to develop processes compliant with industry quality systems, such as AS9100.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Customer focused with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-directed and able to balance several tasks at once.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with diverse teams across large geographic distances.
  • Understanding of engineering fundamentals for materials and advanced manufacturing, including working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (e.g., CAD, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E and Catia preferred).
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

Nice-to-haves

  • Direct manufacturing and/or manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Experience with thermal protection systems or carbon composites.
  • Development or manufacturing experience with TPS composites, including Si/C/SiC; C/SiC; C/C, or similar.
  • Experience standardizing workflow processes, optimizing work center throughput, and initiating process improvements.
  • Experience with data analytics, visualization, and automated reporting to improve manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with SQL and Python programming languages.
  • Experience with PTC Windchill, Creo, JIRA, Confluence.
  • 5S and Lean Six Sigma experience.
