About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer - Logistics at Georgia-Pacific is responsible for optimizing logistics and supply chain processes within the manufacturing environment. This role focuses on enhancing material flow, inventory management, and overall logistics operations to support production and distribution. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement solutions that improve productivity, reduce costs, and ensure timely product delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement logistics strategies to optimize material flow from suppliers to production lines
  • Analyze and improve warehouse operations, including storage, picking, and packing processes
  • Develop and maintain efficient transportation routes and schedules to ensure timely delivery of raw materials and finished goods
  • Monitor inventory levels and implement systems to manage stock efficiently
  • Coordinate with procurement and production teams to forecast inventory needs and minimize excess stock
  • Implement inventory tracking systems and conduct regular audits to ensure accuracy
  • Use Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to identify and eliminate waste in logistics and supply chain processes
  • Conduct time and motion studies to streamline operations and improve workflow
  • Lead continuous improvement projects aimed at enhancing logistics efficiency and reducing costs
  • Collect and analyze logistics data to identify trends and areas for improvement
  • Prepare and present reports on logistics performance metrics, including delivery times, inventory levels, and transportation costs
  • Use data-driven insights to inform decision-making and strategic planning
  • Work closely with production, procurement, and distribution teams to ensure seamless logistics operations
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to optimize supply chain performance
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure alignment on logistics strategies and goals
  • Evaluate and implement logistics technologies, such as WMS (Warehouse Management Systems) and TMS (Transportation Management Systems)
  • Ensure integration of logistics systems with existing ERP/MRP systems
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in logistics technology
  • Ensure logistics operations comply with industry safety standards and regulations
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures to mitigate hazards
  • Train logistics staff on safe work practices and procedures

Requirements

  • Experience in logistics, supply chain management, or manufacturing engineering
  • Proficiency with logistics and inventory management software
  • Strong communication, organizational, and project management abilities
  • Familiarity with industry safety standards and regulations
  • Experience working within a pulp and paper, industrial, military, or heavy manufacturing environment

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
