About the position
The Manager of Special Education Compliance at Anne Arundel County Public Schools is responsible for providing technical assistance regarding special education compliance to schools, parents, and students. This role involves proactive support to address concerns that may lead to litigation, attending special education meetings, coordinating mediation sessions, and conducting internal monitoring activities. The manager will also assist with investigations related to complaints and support schools in corrective actions, while designing professional development to ensure compliant processes.
Responsibilities
- Assist schools, parents, and students with technical assistance regarding special education compliance.
- Provide proactive support to address concerns that may lead to litigation.
- Attend school-based special education meetings as requested.
- Coordinate and represent AACPS in special education mediation sessions.
- Conduct internal monitoring activities annually as assigned.
- Assist with state monitoring activities.
- Investigate and respond to MSDE and OCR complaints, supporting schools in corrective actions.
- Participate on AACPS and state committees as assigned.
- Design and implement professional development to build compliant processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or related field required; Master's Degree preferred.
- Five years of successful teaching or related experience in special education required.
- Three years of supervisory or management experience required.
- Extensive knowledge of special education compliance and procedural issues.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and effective communication skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Experience with Video/Web Conferencing tools.
