About the position

The Manager: School Nutrition Level 1 is responsible for managing and participating in the operation of a school restaurant that provides meals in an elementary school. This role includes overseeing the transportation of food and supplies, food preparation, meal service, cashiering, ordering, cleaning kitchen equipment and facilities, and maintaining required sanitation standards. The manager will provide instruction and work assignments for School Nutrition Associates and must be capable of performing all listed duties independently, which may vary based on work location and available staffing. Additional work days and hours may be required based on assignment, including flexible schedules, emergencies, extended hours, and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to all USDA guidelines for the Child Nutrition Program and AACPS policies.
  • Maintains food quality standards through effective supervision of restaurant operations.
  • Plans and participates in the preparation, cooking, and serving of food.
  • Orders, assembles, and transports appropriate quantities of food and supplies.
  • Maintains inventories of food, supplies, and equipment.
  • Manages cleaning and safety practices to ensure sanitary conditions.
  • Reconciles money and register receipts from sales and maintains necessary records.
  • Protects the anonymity of students qualifying for free and reduced-price meals.
  • Manages food service employees by preparing work schedules and directing work.
  • Prepares and maintains required records and reports.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required.
  • Six months of food service experience with demonstrated managerial experience required.
  • Considerable knowledge of quantity food preparation and sanitation regulations.
  • Ability to complete job responsibilities despite frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to delegate and motivate personnel.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • ServSafe Manager Certificate issued by National Restaurant Association.
  • Driver's License Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence.
