About the position

The Penn Center for Cancer Care Innovation (PC3I) is seeking a Health Informatics Innovation Manager to manage research and innovation initiatives executed across the University of Pennsylvania Health System. Founded at the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania, PC3I is the nation's first center working at the nexus of research and practice to create, test, and scale solutions to transform cancer care delivery. Our mission is to make cancer care better for patients, clinicians, and communities. The Health Informatics Innovation Manager role contributes to the strategic development of PC3I's portfolio by planning and implementing projects to develop, test, and scale new solutions to improve cancer care, with a particular focus on supporting projects with a strong informatics and/or data analytics component. Projects may come from a variety of sources, including from the federal government, private foundations, internal Penn sources, clinical partners, and others. The Health Informatics Innovation Manager will join an interdisciplinary team of scientists, clinicians, administrators, and technical personnel with deep experience in their fields. Responsibilities

  • Works at the direction of PC3I leadership and managers, and in close collaboration with project principal investigators.
  • Responsible for several projects of varying complexity, responsible for day-to-day work and progress towards milestones.
  • With direction, develops and maintains appropriate project documentation (project plans, budgets, protocols, workflows, standard operating procedures, etc.)
  • Supports proposal efforts (coordinating, reviewing, etc.)
  • May manage staff as part of project-specific teams.
  • Manage large datasets and prepare for analysis
  • Provides feedback on the development of project-specific tools for the PC3I community.
  • Assist with grant proposal development by writing the data analysis plan, generating and summarizing the power analysis and assessing the scope of work and developing the appropriate budget justification.
  • Develop, document, and maintain analytical data files, with variables derived from primary databases, suitable structured for statistical analyses.
  • Oversee various data management projects using the REDCap databases.
  • Conducts appropriate analysis, including interpretation and explanation of techniques used, assumptions made, and generalization of results
  • Serve as liaison between PC3I and other informatics teams across organizations to integrate/synthesize techniques and methodologies in our Center's portfolio in alignment with health system and University goals and priorities.
  • Support PC3I initiatives and project portfolio by offering strategic planning and consultation with an emphasis on providing data analytics services and solutions for new project inquiries
  • Drives innovation forward through offering informatics oversight, leveraging artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies healthcare informatics to advance the goals of PC3I
  • Support with data monitoring plans, usage agreements, and adherence to data-sharing policies
  • Support with tracking Center metrics
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required for PM A.
  • Master's degree and 3-5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required for PM B.
  • Required knowledge includes process and data modeling, data architectural development methodology and working knowledge of databases.
  • Experience using data analysis tools and databases.
  • Experience conducting and leading chart review required.
  • Demonstrated competence in systems analysis and design and the ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage electronic health record data (preferably, EPIC) and merge with other forms of data (e.g., registry data or trial data).
  • Familiarity with or willing to learn R, SQL, SAS, and Stata, in addition to EPIC and stay current with new methods.
  • 2-3 years of project management preferred.
