About the position

The Software Manager is responsible for leading the Software Engineering team, focusing on enhancing and maintaining automated material handling and warehouse management software to meet customer requirements and maximize satisfaction. This role involves implementing best practices in software development, ensuring team skill enhancement, and managing the quality and timeliness of software development to achieve targeted profit margins.

Responsibilities

• Manage and motivate an effective Software Engineering team, ensuring required resources and performance management.
• Prepare business plans for the cost center, including budgeting, forecasting, and training planning based on yearly goals.
• Budget, forecast, and maintain the cost center account to ensure competitive cost levels.
• Estimate and review software effort estimates for future enhancements and customer support.
• Provide training to software engineers to maintain industry competence and knowledge of Swisslog products.
• Allocate tasks evenly across the team and prioritize workload based on customer issues.
• Transfer project-specific knowledge efficiently to the software support team.
• Create and implement training packages appropriate to job roles.
• Perform account management tasks, assessing customer business needs and applicability of Swisslog products.

Requirements

• BS degree in engineering or computer science.
• Must be a US Citizen, Green Card Holder, or Permanent Resident.
• Experience in material handling/warehouse automation.
• Proficient in all MS Office products; SAP experience is a benefit.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated presentation skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to multi-task and work independently.
• At least three years of management experience with an emphasis on software.

Nice-to-haves

• 5 years of experience in warehouse management.
