About the position

The Manager of Foundation Grants is responsible for cultivating and managing relationships with private grant-making partners to secure funding for the Ali Forney Center's mission. This role requires strategic thinking, strong communication skills, and a proven track record in grants fundraising and program development. The Grants Manager will work closely with the Deputy Executive Director of Development to execute fundraising strategies and achieve revenue goals, thereby enhancing the organization's outreach and partnership management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of approximately $2M in private source grant revenue.
  • Oversee outreach, LOI, tours, meetings, grant applications, execution, stewardship, and renewal of grants.
  • Develop and implement strategies to maximize revenue for existing foundation relationships.
  • Manage relationships with key foundation staff members leading the partnership with AFC.
  • Coordinate, maintain, and prepare operational records and documentation of grant activities.
  • Manage annual grant calendar for private sources to meet critical deadlines.
  • Identify, cultivate, and secure partnerships with foundations to support the agency's work.
  • Develop tailored grant applications, presentations, and meetings to build relationships with grant-making bodies.
  • Collaborate with the development team to integrate various roles in building foundation partnerships.
  • Prepare regular reports for grant partners focusing on partnership growth.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in nonprofit development focusing on foundation partnerships.
  • Proven track record of securing significant grant support and meeting fundraising goals.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for building rapport and negotiating with grant partners.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and implement innovative fundraising strategies.
  • Ability to design and execute realistic timelines, task delegation, and project management during the grant-seeking process.
  • Professional acumen and adherence to ethical standards in all interactions.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Excellent technical skills in writing, editing, formatting, and spreadsheet manipulation.
  • Data orientation with experience working with CRMs (NEON preferred).
  • Passion for LGBTQ+ rights and youth homelessness issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of LGBTQ+ issues and familiarity with the New York City nonprofit landscape.
