About the position

The Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission (CMRPC) is seeking a full-time Manager of Environmental Planning to lead and coordinate various environmental and resiliency planning initiatives. This role involves overseeing projects related to open space, hazard mitigation, climate pollution reduction, and energy efficiency, while also engaging with municipalities and community stakeholders. The successful candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, contributing to meaningful projects that enhance the quality of life in Central Massachusetts.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the development of open space and recreation plans, hazard mitigation plans, and climate pollution reduction initiatives.
  • Lead the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) program to address climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Work with municipalities to seek resources for energy-saving efforts in coordination with the Green Communities coordinator.
  • Contribute to community development, housing, and economic development plans through data collection, research, and community engagement.
  • Develop community engagement tools such as online surveys and contribute to social media and informational resources.
  • Track workflow, schedule, and budgetary status of ongoing projects, coordinating work among CMRPC staff and external partners.
  • Provide guidance to junior and mid-level staff and oversee multiple environmental planning activities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in community/urban planning, public policy, environmental science, or related field.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible professional work experience in the environmental/resiliency field.
  • Strong writing, graphic, and GIS skills with the ability to tailor messages to specific audiences.
  • Excellent time management and project management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with visualization tools such as Canva and Sketchup.
  • Professional level Geographic Information Services (GIS) and data analysis skills.
  • Ability to develop social media messages across multiple platforms.
