About the position

The Manager of Patient Care is responsible for overseeing a patient care unit, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care in collaboration with the healthcare team. This role involves managing staff, developing clinical practices, and implementing quality improvement initiatives while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for management of a patient care unit(s).
  • Partners with healthcare team to assure quality patient/family centered care.
  • Uses established channels of communication to share information and report problems.
  • Builds credibility with physicians as a champion for patient care and nursing professionalism.
  • Facilitates consensus building to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Acts as an expert resource for staff in clinical practice.
  • Analyzes and evaluates nursing practice, research, and trends.
  • Creates and modifies policies and procedures as appropriate to the clinical unit.
  • Directs the development of competencies for staff performance.
  • Maintains personal and professional growth by participating in educational offerings.
  • Partners with medical staff to establish patient care goals.
  • Evaluates patient care delivery model and needed resources for optimal care.
  • Supports the development and implementation of a patient safety program.
  • Ensures staff education on risk management and compliance issues.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains quality monitoring processes.
  • Formulates unit goals reflective of measurable objectives and evidence-based practice.
  • Monitors unit quality assurance with safety and documentation issues.
  • Recruits, selects, retains, coaches, and mentors personnel.
  • Facilitates inter-departmental relationships to achieve organizational goals.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and evidence-based practice.
  • Participates in committees and task forces as needed.
  • Manages within authorized budget and identifies cost-effectiveness in the unit.

Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years of clinical experience as RN.
  • Minimum two (2) years of leadership experience in health care field.
  • BSN or health-related bachelor's degree.
  • Registered Nurse License (in the state where care is provided).
  • Basic Life Support certification within 1 month of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum four (4) years of previous experience in a similar role.
  • Minimum five (5) years of demonstrated knowledge in area of clinical expertise.
  • Master's degree.
