About the position

The maintenance worker is responsible for the day-to-day care, upkeep, maintenance, and repair of district facilities and equipment, as assigned by the maintenance supervisor or other immediate supervisor. This position involves repairs and maintenance of machinery, plumbing, physical structures, and electrical wiring and fixtures in accordance with blueprints, manuals, building codes, and district maintenance policy. Duties include major and minor repairs as expertise and equipment available allow. A maintenance worker may be assigned on a temporary, rotating, or permanent status to any of the facilities of the district commensurate with the district facility needs. This type of position requires strength and stamina to perform strenuous tasks in varied working conditions. The maintenance worker must possess and maintain a current New Mexico Driver's license and be capable of lifting at least 60 pounds while performing all essential functions and physical demands.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs and maintains machinery, plumbing, physical structure, and electrical wiring and fixtures.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day care, upkeep, maintenance, and repair of district facilities and equipment.
  • Perform major and minor repairs as expertise and equipment allow.
  • May be assigned to any of the facilities of the district based on needs.
  • Perform strenuous tasks in varied working conditions.
  • Pick up delivery of supplies, tools, and equipment as needed for district events.

Requirements

  • Knowledgeable in inspection of machinery and mechanical equipment defects.
  • Ability to dismantle machines or equipment to access defective parts and repair them using hand tools.
  • Experience in replacing rubber drive belts on machines.
  • Ability to clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, pulleys, and other parts of machines.
  • Skilled in measuring, cutting, and installing pipe and tubing for water and hydraulic lines.
  • Experience in repairing and replacing gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and other plumbing equipment.
  • Ability to open clogged drains using plunger and plumbers' tools.
  • Skilled in making and repairing counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures.
  • Experience in painting walls, floors, woodwork, and fixtures using spray guns and brushes.
  • Ability to replace and repair brick and plaster walls using trowel and other masonry tools.
  • Operates welding equipment and performs welding tasks as needed (if qualified).
  • May perform occasional unskilled and manual labor tasks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in planning and installation of landscaping materials, including fences and walls.
  • Ability to assist with care and maintenance of landscape areas.
  • Experience in maintaining walkways, roadways, and other traffic areas, including snow removal.
