About the position

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for operations associated with special events including forklift and scissor lift operations. The position works directly with exhibition managers regarding the technical capabilities of buildings and equipment. Additionally, this position is responsible for the overall maintenance and operation of the aquatics center in SCUA with specific support for the pump room operations. The incumbent is expected to exercise considerable independent judgment in determining materials and methods to be used in performing assignments. Work assignments are received in the form of oral or written instructions, sketches or blueprints. The employee may supervise a small number of Laborers or subordinate Maintenance Mechanics who assist in performing assigned work. Supervision is received from assigned supervisory personnel, who inspect work in progress and upon completion for compliance with specifications and standards. Does related work as required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, through special events department, all building maintenance; High Volume Air Conditioning (HVAC) plant operation; temporary building modifications; inclusive of event services providers such as electrical and decorating.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and operation of all equipment but not limited to forklift and scissor lift for the development and implementation of preventive maintenance.
  • Responsible in meeting with exhibition managers, explaining the technical capabilities of the building and equipment, and ensuring that all exhibitions meet structural and safety standards.
  • Investigate building service complaints and requests from other organizational units and from exhibitors; determines extent of services needed and prepares job orders as necessary.
  • Responsible for all move-in/out operations, including advising exhibitors of modifications necessary to conform to the Arena's structural standards & the location of utility outlets and special equipment.
  • Calculate floor loads and stresses of proposed exhibits based on exhibitors' specifications and measurements and advise modifications if necessary to ensure conformance with load and stress capabilities of the building for all events taking place at SFCUA.
  • Prepare reports and communications for the purpose of notifying the Director and other College stakeholders of essential information.
  • Notify the Director and Special Events staff of emergencies, and help coordinate appropriate response with trades and Public Safety when necessary.
  • Responsible for the overall maintenance and operation of Aquatics center the SFCUA.
  • Maintain a functional and organized pump room environment.
  • Monitor pool water chemistry through testing of water samples. Adjusts chemistry as needed to maintain standards.
  • Work with Aquatics Manager to consistently improve facility procedures and standards.

Requirements

  • Completion of two (2) years of vocational education courses in a vocational school program or in an apprentice or training program in one of the craft areas, and two (2) years of experience in the craft or specialty to which the incumbent will be assigned.
  • Four (4) years of experience in the craft or specialty to which the incumbent will be assigned.
  • An equivalent combination of the above education, or training, and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).
  • One (1) year of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic II.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Pool Operators (CPO) license

Benefits

  • As per the Association of Municipal Employees contract, the starting biweekly salary is $1,912.
  • Full-time position with a shift from 2PM to 10PM, Monday through Friday.
  • Some nights and weekends may be required, based on events schedule.
