About The Position

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for a Maintenance Carpenter/HVAC Technician. This role coordinates, plans, and performs MDT headquarter facilities maintenance and construction work. The position also performs contract administration in conjunction with major repairs, remodels, new construction, and upgrades of MDT facilities. This position will serve as the main HVAC contact and will troubleshoot complex building systems. Responsibilities include repairing and maintaining plumbing, electrical, high and low voltage control circuits, boilers, HVAC systems, automated building control systems, well and pumps, overhead doors, locks, and fire suppression systems. The role also involves maintaining and repairing advanced level 2 septic systems and water treatment equipment per DEQ Standards.

Requirements

• Four years of experience working in the electrical, plumbing and/or carpentry trades.
• Must be able to operate all hand and power tools, measuring gauges and instruments, sophisticated electronic and other diagnostic equipment including computers, all welding and cutting equipment, specialty plumbing and electrical tools, machining and metal fabrication equipment, fork lifts, loaders, trucks, heavy and light duty equipment, safety equipment, lifts and cranes, service manuals, diagrams and schematics.
• Must be able to perform physical activity in lifting, carrying and/or operation of tools, equipment and materials (greater than 50 pounds).
• Forklift certification must be obtained within 3 months after hire.
• Class 3 Boiler License must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
• Driver’s record will be verified.
• Successful applicants will be required to sign a release form which authorizes the Department to obtain the applicant’s permanent driving records.
• Compliance with Mont. Admin. R. 2.6.201, "State Vehicle Use," and MDT Policy #6.03.001, "State Vehicle Use Policy" are conditions of employment.
