About The Position

The Montana Department of Transportation is recruiting for a Maintenance Carpenter/HVAC Technician. The Maintenance Carpenter/HVAC Technician coordinates, plans and performs MDT headquarter facilities maintenance and construction work. Performs contract administration in conjunction with major repairs, remodels, new construction and upgrades of MDT facilities. This position will be the main HVAC contact. This position will troubleshoot complex building systems. Repair and maintain plumbing, electrical, high and low voltage control circuits, boilers, HVAC systems, automated building control systems, well and pumps, overhead doors, locks and fire suppression systems. Maintain and repair advanced level 2 septic systems and water treatment equipment per DEQ Standards.

Requirements

  • Must be able to operate all hand and power tools, measuring gauges and instruments, sophisticated electronic and other diagnostic equipment including computers, all welding and cutting equipment, specialty plumbing and electrical tools, machining and metal fabrication equipment, fork lifts, loaders, trucks, heavy and light duty equipment, safety equipment, lifts and cranes, service manuals, diagrams and schematics.
  • Must be able to perform physical activity in lifting, carrying and/or operation of tools, equipment and materials (greater than 50 pounds).
  • Four years of experience working in the electrical, plumbing and/or carpentry trades.
  • Driver’s record will be verified.
  • Successful applicants will be required to sign a release form which authorizes the Department to obtain the applicant’s permanent driving records.
  • Compliance with Mont. Admin. R. 2.6.201, "State Vehicle Use," and MDT Policy #6.03.001, "State Vehicle Use Policy" are conditions of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong background in HVAC desired.
  • Graduation from an accredited vocational trade school in any of these fields may be substituted for two years’ experience.
