About the position

The Maintenance Assistant at Wyndham Garden Austin is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of hotel equipment, ensuring safety and comfort for both staff and guests. This role involves overseeing maintenance programs, managing work orders, and leading emergency procedures while maintaining a guest-first attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of hotel equipment including HVAC, plumbing, and fire safety systems.
  • Ensure swimming pool and spa maintenance duties are performed according to specifications and regulations.
  • Develop, coordinate, and monitor a maintenance program for safety and comfort of staff and guests.
  • Maintain a work order assignment program for completed and pending work orders.
  • Prioritize and complete work orders in a timely manner.
  • Educate and lead department personnel on emergency procedures and safety protocols.
  • Hire, train, develop, and review the performance of department personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year experience in engineering, maintenance, or a related professional discipline.
  • Experience in a hotel environment preferred.
  • Must obtain and maintain any licenses or certificates as required by law.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics.
  • Knowledge of machines, computers, tools, and other equipment, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests and staff.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a hotel environment preferred.
