About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe DB2 Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, support, and optimize DB2 databases in a z/OS environment. The role involves ensuring high availability, performance tuning, supporting database design, and handling production incidents while working closely with application, infrastructure, and support teams.

Requirements

  • Experienced Mainframe DB2 Database Administrator (DBA)
  • z/OS environment experience
  • Experience with DB2 for z/OS
  • Experience with database creation, alteration, and migration
  • Experience managing tablespaces, indexes, buffer pools, and storage structures
  • Experience with performance monitoring and tuning tools (e.g., Omegamon, Query Monitor)
  • Experience with SQL performance analysis and optimization
  • Experience identifying and resolving locking, contention, and resource issues
  • Experience with backup and recovery strategies
  • Experience with database recovery, disaster recovery drills, and testing
  • Experience supporting data sharing environments
  • L2/L3 production support experience
  • Experience troubleshooting DB2 abends, timeouts, deadlocks, and performance issues
  • Experience with DB2 security management (GRANT/REVOKE, RACF integration)
  • Experience ensuring compliance with audit and regulatory requirements
  • Experience supporting database changes across DEV, QA, and PROD environments
  • Experience reviewing and implementing DDL changes and migration scripts
  • Experience coordinating with application teams for releases and deployments
  • Experience working with application developers, system programmers, and infrastructure teams
  • Experience providing guidance on database design, indexing strategies, and SQL best practices
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotation

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain DB2 for z/OS environments
  • Perform database creation, alteration, and migration activities
  • Manage tablespaces, indexes, buffer pools, and storage structures
  • Monitor and tune DB2 performance using tools (e.g., Omegamon, Query Monitor)
  • Analyze SQL performance and recommend optimization strategies
  • Identify and resolve locking, contention, and resource issues
  • Define and maintain backup/recovery strategies
  • Perform database recovery, disaster recovery drills, and testing
  • Support data sharing environments and ensure high availability
  • Provide L2/L3 support for production incidents
  • Troubleshoot DB2 abends, timeouts, deadlocks, and performance issues
  • Participate in on-call rotation and critical issue resolution
  • Manage DB2 security (GRANT/REVOKE, RACF integration)
  • Ensure compliance with audit and regulatory requirements
  • Support database changes across DEV, QA, and PROD environments
