About the position

The Tool Maker will be responsible for planning, constructing, altering, and repairing a variety of tools, jigs, prototypes, and fixtures using both manual and CNC machine tools. This role requires precision and the ability to work from various technical documents, including prints and CAD software, to ensure high-quality production and tooling solutions.

Responsibilities

• Plan and layout job assignments, determining the sequence of machining operations and calculating shrinkage and expansion allowances.
• Perform machine operations requiring unusual and difficult setups to maintain very close tolerances and fits, including heat treating and assembly.
• Perform tool troubleshooting duties as assigned and make recommendations on tool modifications.
• Set up, program, and operate EDM equipment and complex CNC machine tools.
• Report design errors and mark up changes on drawings for the Engineering Department.
• Assist in training and instructing lower graded tool makers.
• Collaborate with the Engineering Department and production employees on tooling and prototype refinements.
• Develop engineering models from sketches and piece part drawings, making design modifications as necessary.
• Use a variety of manual and CNC machine tools, precision measuring tools, and hand tools while following safety rules.

Requirements

• 4+ years of manual machining experience
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience with manual milling, including facing, boring, drilling, and tapping
• Experience with manual lathes, including turning, boring, and single-point threading
• Proficient in using measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges
• Skilled at blueprint reading and basic trigonometry
• Ability to pass Tool Maker A written and physical test
