About the position

The Machinist Operator/Research Assistant at Oregon Institute of Technology supports manufacturing research and develops skills in machine tool programming, operation, inspection, and safety. This entry-level position offers a unique opportunity to work with industry members, university staff, faculty, and students, while assisting with demonstrations and educational events. The role is based at the OMIC campus in Scappoose, Oregon, and is ideal for recent community college graduates.

Responsibilities

  • Support manufacturing research at the facility.
  • Develop skills in CNC machine operation and maintenance.
  • Assist with demonstrations, seminars, and educational events.
  • Maintain shop/lab cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with diverse teams.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Applied Science, Machine Tool Technology, or similar.
  • Two years or more of manual machine and CNC operating experience.
  • Experience with basic MDI at CNC machine controller.
  • Proven ability to maintain shop/lab cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull over 50 pounds.
  • GD&T and blueprint reading experience with precision measurement skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Fanuc, Siemens, Heidenhein, or Okuma controllers.
  • CAD/CAM experience.
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative setting.
  • Demonstrated calmness and confidence in high-pressure environments.
  • Creative problem-solving skills with a flexible approach.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a salary range of $50,000 - $60,000 per year.
